The core artistic team welcomed Samantha Williams-Gray (Tlingit) in December of 2019 to join the process of creating Things You Know But Cannot Explain as well as a a cast member in the premier performance of the play at the Mad River Festival in June 2020.
It has been incredibly exciting to share ideas, experience, and research with her. Samantha is a visual artist and sculptor currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology and studying the intersection of performance/movement and healing at the Tamalpa Institute. She is a Humboldt native in both senses of the word, though her tribe is far north of Humboldt County. Like Rick, she has lived her life away from the land that made her ancestors and speaks to this reality with great eloquence.
She's also an awesome human all around, CASA volunteer, and youth advocate. We are so lucky to have her on the team!
Here she is (on the right) with Dell'Arte International faculty member Sayda Trujillo during the pitching of the big tent in the side yard at Dell'Arte in preparation for the build of the show. Look at those pretty smiles!
